Guide to Nungwi : Nungwi beach is the most beautiful beaches in Zanzibar with clean sand and decent water sport, the beach is also most popular beach in Zanzibar Island and in 2018 it was named one of the best beaches by CNN. Nungwi beach is located on the Coast of Africa and at the north – western tip of Zanzibar Island.

Nungwi Beach is one of the major beach destination in Zanzibar with powdery white sand, crystal blue waters and exotic flora and fauna, the beach is loved by many visitors from all over the world and there are accommodation and leisure establishments  including restaurants, bars, beaches and all in-inclusive hotels which are open all year round. One of the best resorts to stay in Nungwi Beach is Ras Nungwi situated in a more secluded area about 10 minutes away from the main Nungwi Beach.

Nungwi Beach experiences no big tidal effect which allows swimming at any hour of the day.

Langi Langi Restaurant is a great spot for a romantic dinner during your beach holiday in Nungwi Beach, this restaurant has been in existence at Nungwi Beach for more than 20 years.

Langi Langi is situated on a deck above the Ocean offering a great atmosphere and boasts magnificent views of the beach, the restaurant specializes in spicy Indonesian Cuisine with best plates being fish and seafood in Curry or Masala. Prices at this restaurant are very reasonable.

Fisherman’s Grill

Fisherman’s Grill is noted to offer the best quality in Nungwi and excellent food with a fine selection of wine, the restaurant has a big variety of dishes on its menu with ability for every visitor to find something they like.  Some of the dishes at Fisherman’s Grill are elaborated seafood and meat which is cooked to perfection to make your mouth water.

Nungwi Inn

Nungwi Inn is a great spot to have lunch and a candlelit romantic dinner while having your feet in the sand, the restaurant is situated right next to the Spanish Dancer Divers. Nungwi Inn offers good sea food, plater, burger, Pizza, Pasta, Pork, Schniztel, club sandwich among dishes.

Baraka Bungalow

Baraka Bungalow is one of the affordable restaurant on Nungwi beach, the restaurant serves tasty and great fish and seafood grill with rice and vegetables for dinner. The tables of this restaurant are set on the beach and they fish and the sea food are on display for you to choose from.

Mama Mia

Mama Mia serves good Italian dishes and is ideal for lunch and dinner, this restaurant for having the best Galateria where you can come to grab some of the homemade cream.

Badolina

Badolina is a great restaurant for vegetarian visitors with a cozy environment for a romantic dinner, Badolina has a good selection of wine and dishes. The Samurai Tuna, Bodicea and The Yogi are the top picks.

The Corner

The Corner is a great restaurant to eat at if you are a fun of Pizza, it also serves Capricciosa Diavola, Quatro formaggio and Napoli among others.

Passion and Thyme

Passion and Thyme is a great spot to grab a quick bite, the restaurant also services delicious sandwiches, salads, quiches, pastries, coffee and juices.

Look Food at Nungwi Beach

If you wish to get a taste of local food at Nungwi Beach, there are several place to checkout and the best place is Nungwi roundabout at night where all the locals hang out for street food in the evenings. Some of the local food you can try out include Chipso, Mayai (omelette with fries), Zanzibari Pizza or Mishkaki (beef or chicken skewers).

Other spots to get local food are Mama Africa and Cocoa which are located outside the Nungwi Inn Hotel and some of the food the serve include Pilau Samaki or Nyama (spiced rice with fish or beef), Mchicha (local spinach) or Makande (corn dish).

Nungwi Beach has a number of bars which you can visit during your holiday, as a visitor note that these bars get empty before midnight on most days. So do not visit the bars late in the night.

Mangi’s Bar

Mangi’s beach is one of the first to be opened in Nungwi Beach and is a great spot to enjoy a sunset drink on the beach, the beach hots spontaneous parties which happen often and lasts until the last money leaves.

Z Hotel Rooftop Bar

Z Hotel Rooftop Bar is also a best spot to enjoy a sunset drink together with views of the Indian Ocean, Dawa is the favorite cocktail at the Bar.

Beach Bay

This a sea view rooftop bar with a chilled atmosphere, the bar is a visitors’ favorite spot on Nungwi Beach  as it has good music, cold beer and nice selection of cocktails. Every evening, fresh seafood BBQ and there is a dartboard for the bar’s guests to play while passing time.

Cocobello Bar

Cocobello Bar is an ideal spot for visitors wishing to party and dance to the best Africa rythms while on their holiday on Nungwi Beach, the bar open twice a week that is Wednesday and Sunday and it gets filled with locals and foreign visitors dancing a night away.

ATTRACTIONS

Nungwi Beach is a great spot for a relaxing retreat with various activities to do during your holiday/ vacation, you can take a walk around the Nungwi Village and during the low tide you can visit the Kendwa Beach on foot. Kendwa beach is approximately 20 minutes’ walk along the beach.

Snorkeling and diving

Nungwi Beach has some of fascinating waters suitable for snorkeling and diving, these excursions are done at Mnemba Atoll which is situated just a boat ride from Nungwi Beach. Mnemba Atoll hosts a rich variety of aquatic life such as dolphins which are spotted on snorkeling and diving excursions.

The Fish Market

The Fish Market is one of the amazing spots to visit offering visitors a thrilling experience and moments worth capturing on camera, during your visit you spot the local fishermen leaving for their usual night fishing at around 04:00 pm and dotting the horizon with tens of dhows and their white – sails which are a sight to see.

The fishermen return the following morning at around 07:00 pm with catch of all shapes and sizes, you will see sea fish and other sea creatures you have never seen before and also watch the locals as they bid for the best catch.
