Vocational Training and skilling

Vocational Training and skilling : Through vocational training and skilling, Petnah Community Initiative aims at unlocking potential through vocation training.

Most of the youths in the Rushaga Community around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and other protected areas in Uganda have not been blessed with a chance to acquire formal education due to lack financial assistance to access education.

Because of lack of required level education as well as required academic credentials, most of the youth have missed out of good job opportunities this not thriving in the formal employment sector in Uganda.

Vocational training and skilling program by Petnah Community Initiative is the best alternative for young people to find an occupation and create a better life for themselves.

This program is part of Petnah Community Intiative’s “Skilling Dropout Adolescents for Self – Reliance’ Project aiming at providing the young beneficiaries with channels for self – reliance resulting from economic empowerment upon completion of the training.

The Vocational Training and Skilling Program by Petnah Community Initiative is in line with the Ugandan Government Vision 2040 which highlights the importance of strengthening the fundamentals of the economy to exploit the abundant opportunities around the country.

Also, this project falls in line with Sustainable Development Goals of “No Poverty” and “Zero Hunger’.

Vocational Programmes Offered By Petnah Community Initiative

In partnership with several vocational institutions around the country, Petnah Community Initiative offers the following course to the youth of Rushaga Sector as well as other protected areas in Uganda.

Electrical Installation & Maintenance

Welding and Fabrication

Welding and Fabrication is one of the highly sought-after skills in many industries in Uganda from construction to manufacturing and transportation. This course is designed to equip the youth with practical skills and competencies necessary for employment in the welding and fabrication industry.

This course is modularized to allow the learners to attain employable skills at their own pace, the duration of this course is 2 years and learners are awarded a National Certificate in Welding and Fabrication.

Fashion & Garment

With a daily raise in trends in Fashion and Style, the Fashion and Garment Design is one of the most profitable economic industries where the youth can earn a living while having fun.

Fashion and Garment Design refers to the art of creating beautiful and functional clothing and accessories, this course teaches the youth/learners the needed skills to become a professional Fashion and Garment Designer.

The duration of this course is 2 years and at its completion, learners are rewarded National Certificate in Fashion and Garment Design and will be able to make custom-made garments to fit the interest of a given customer, draw and paint clothing designs for commercial use, coordinate clothes, jewelry and accessories used in fashion photography, among others.

Plumbing Systems

This course is designed to produce skilled plumbers who are relevant to the industry and world of work and is trainee – centered and emphasizes practical – based learning through projects, innovation and industrial training after completion of each year.

The duration of this course is 2 years and learners are awarded with a National Certificate in Plumbing (NCPL).

Upon completion of this course, trainees will be able to carry out installations of appliances and water pipes, maintain and repair water facilities and equipment, install drainage and water disposal systems, forge and make fabricated facilities, fittings and products among others.

Youth graduating with a National Certificate in Plumbing (NCPL) are eligible to be employed in manufacturing and processing industries, service sectors, construction companies, public works departments, rural development agencies, power generation, transmission and construction projects.

Automotive Mechanics

This course is designed to provide the youth with the basic and fundamental knowledge and skills required for automotive service, maintenance and repair. This course emphasizes the core requirements of a well-trained automatic mechanic as per the automatic curriculum of the National Curriculum Development Centre.

The duration of this Automotive Mechanics Course is 2 years and graduates are rewarded a National Certificate in Automotive Mechanics course, the graduates are able to fabricate components and machine parts, exhibit improved OHSE awareness, install, repair and maintain the electrical system in a vehicle.

Electrical Installation & Maintenance

This course is designed to produce electricians who are skilled and relevant to the industry, this course is centered on trainees and focuses on practical learning, projects, innovation and industrial training.

The duration of the Electrical Installation & Maintenance Course is 2 years and the graduates are awarded a National Certificate in Electrical Installation Systems and Maintenance.
