Tororo Rock | Volcanic Plug Above Eastern Uganda
Tororo rock is located in the eastern part of Uganda. It sits in Tororo district. The bordering districts are; Malaba district, busia district,Nagongela district. The language spoken in Tororo is “Japadhola”.The rock expresses the beauty of Tororo town. It is climbable in a hour, this has made it a tourist attraction in Uganda, it adds choice to the hiking addicts.
The rock stands at 4,865 ft above sea-level. The rock can be visible from anywhere around Tororo town and also as you approach Tororo town from all high-ways that enter the mineral rich town. To the rock, it is 5 km away from the town. It is surrounded by the ever green Tororo golf course.
HIKING TORORO ROCK
The hike to Tororo rock top is less tiring because there is a four case ladder arranged to almost the top of the rock. The remaining part without ladders is a short walkable distance that does not strain the muscles so much. The hike is led by a well trained guide. Along the hike, he explains the history of the Rock, the history is passed onto the recent generation by the elders. Ontop of the rock is a company power station and a radio mast. While at the top of the rock, the whole of Tororo town is viewed by use of naked eyes.Cell towers of Uganda’s leading communication networks are sighted at the peak of the rock, they include; Airtel Uganda, MTN Uganda and Uganda Telecom. The cable car that was used some years also remained still and can be seen while at the peak of the rock.

HOW TO GET THERE
Tororo is located far east towards the boarder of Uganda and Kenya, Tororo can be connected to by use of road transport at most. Tororo district is one of the few districts in Uganda with an airstrip, unfortunately is dull. It takes you 4 hours by road from Kampala city, you go through Mukono town ,the industrious Jinja town where you can view the river nile, the new suspended bridge and lake victoria. Bugiri district indicates how close you are to Tororo, a view of baboons through Busitema forest with a sight of Busitema University takes you just to Tororo district fully satisfied with the beautiful scenary of Eastern Uganda. Tororo cement company is also sighted along the highway, while encroaching Tororo town, the Tororo rock is viewed from a far.
ECONOMY OF TORORO DISTRICT
Agriculture is the backbone of the district economy. Most of the district produce is consumed locally or sold in the urban areas within the district. Crops grown include the following; Millet Cassava,Peas,Beans,Sweet potatoes,Simsim,Sunflower,Cotton,Onions,Rice and Maize.
Tororo district is blessed with Lime for making cement, most of the lime is said to be extracted from the Osukuru hills. There is fast growing industrialization in the sector of cement. Today Tororo is blessed with two powerful cement factories, they include; Tororo Cement factory along Tororo-Kampala highway, the Simba Cement along Tororo-Mbale highway.
