Top destinations in Uganda: The Pearl of Africa is a great place with many beautiful attractions. The main tourist attractions that you cannot miss while visiting Uganda include the following.
Murchison Falls National Park
This is the country’s biggest national park. While here, one cannot fail to view the big five as well as other interesting wildlife during the amazing game drive. There are many activities to be done while in this park like game drive, boat cruise, hiking and birding. It is such an interesting national park.
Gorilla tracking
Found deep in the mountains, these species are believed to be man’s closest cousin sharing 98% DNA. You can acquire a gorilla permit at the Uganda wildlife offices in Kampala which will allow you close contact with the Gorillas. These can be located in Mgahinga forest and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
Chimpanzee tracking/Habituation
This is another great activity where one can opt for tracking which takes a few hours /Tracking or spend the entire day with them/Habituation. These can be found in Kibale forest as well as Ngamba Island sanctuary on Lake Victoria.
Mount Rwenzori
Known as Mountains of the moon, this is one the mountains with the highest peak in Africa. You can take approximately a 7 day trek to reach to the top of this mountain which is filled with snow.
National Parks
Uganda is filled with a variety of National parks such as Murchison Park which includes the big five and is the biggest national park in the country, Queen Elizabeth national park located in the South West, Mount Elgon National Park in the East, Lake Mburo in the West, Kidepo national park in the Northeast. They have a variety of interesting wildlife that will leave you amazed.
Ngamba Island
Located on Lake Victoria, the island is home to 49 Chimpanzees rescued from throughout Uganda. The island facility offers day trips and night trips which provide great opportunities to interact with the chimpanzees. One can get there by boat to the island.
Mabira forest
Known to be the biggest forest in Uganda, Mabira forest is one for the ever green environment with a calming aroma. Activities one can partake in while here include Zip lining, a trek to the Sezibwa falls and Griffin falls
Source of the Nile
The source of the Nile is believed to be situated in Uganda in Jinja town to the East. It cuts through Lake Victoria which is shared by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. Activities to be made while here include boat ride, rafting and quad biking in Jinja.
Lake Bunyonyi
Located in the western region of the country, the lake is known to the deepest. It is a beautiful attraction with birds and activities like zip line as well as an amazing view.
Sipi Falls
Located in the Eastern region of the country on the hills of Mount Elgon, the falls are a marvelous sight to watch. One can trek up the mountain with the help of a guide to view the three falls of Sipi. It’s very good exercise for the body!!
Kampala city
This is the capital city of Uganda and the busiest too!! It people from all over the country who come to make it in life, with over 20 different tribes and languages. The activities one can take on while in the city include a visit to Bahai temple, Gadaffi mosque, Ndere centre and Nakasero Mosque which can either be done on foot, cycling or using public mans.
There are many wonderful destinations one can tour while in Uganda, time could be the only constraint. The people are also very hospitable with the various cultures and dishes to try out. Uganda won’t let you go!!
