At Petnah Community Empowerment Initiative with believe in education being a fundamental need for a better future, providing quality education to the disadvantage children of Rushaga Community and other communities around protected areas in Uganda.

For hundreds of children in Rushaga Community around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, quality education is unaffordable and out of reach due to poverty which robs them a chance to have a great future.

As a child sponsor, you can provide a child with a gift of a precious gift of quality education and the opportunity to fulfil their potential and set them up for a great future. Through a small grant, you can change the course of a child’s life.

Through our sponsorship programme, we offer support to partner schools to ensure a safe and quality learning environment for every child as one of the ways to maximize the impact on the whole Rushaga community.

Petnah Community Empowerment Initiative supports several school development initiatives, equip and empower partner schools to take ownership of their development, provide quality education and work towards a sustainable future.

What You Receive as a Sponsor?

When you sponsor a child with Petnah Community Empowerment Initiative, you will receive a pack containing background information about your sponsored child, their school and photos of them and their family.

You will receive a letter from your sponsored child twice a year, although some of the little ones are too young to write sentences in English. They make up for it with beautiful and colourful artwork, you will also receive recent photos of your sponsored child and updates about the various school development projects on an ongoing basis.

Our approach to sponsorship benefits both the sponsored child and the school communities. The sponsorship programme ensures that each sponsored child is provided with what they need to receive an education, they are supported with school fees and those in Primary School receive a uniform and scholastic materials.

Tell me more about how school development projects work

We believe that when a school community is thriving, the same goes to its pupils. Each year, the sponsorship programme supports development projects in a selected number of schools across the Petnah Community Empowerment Initiative.

To identify the unique needs, ambitions and priorities of schools as well as their pupils and students, we started working side them. These findings determine the type of development project that is implemented in the school, these projects include sustainable feeding programmes and quality education initiatives such as teacher training.

How do I make payments to sponsor a child?

Sponsorship payments can be made by Direct Debit, Cheque or Cash. Payments can be made monthly or annually.

You can sign up to sponsor a child by giving via Direct Debit through the Sponsorship/donate section on our website. Alternatively, we can send you a Direct Debit form.

How far will my money go?

Sponsorship payments will be used directly to support education of your sponsored child through school fees, provide school materials and a school uniform. Also, your money will contribute towards school development initiatives within Petnah Community Empowerment Initiative school network.

How can I be sure that my money will go to where it is needed?

Through Petnah Community Empowerment Initiative, you can be assured that the money you donate the sponsorship will be used in the Sponsorship Programme as is intended when you make your sponsorship payments.

Are there any guidelines for writing to my sponsored child?

Yes, there are guidelines when writing to your sponsored child. These guidelines are for the safety of both children and sponsors and they include

• Please direct all communication through Petnah Community Empowerment Initiative, we ask that you do not make any contact through social media. In case you are contacted directly by sponsored child, please get touch with us and let us know.
• Please do not include your home address or other contact details in your letter, also do not send money to your sponsored child directly. It can only be done through Petnah Community Empowerment Initiative.
