Shoebill trekk and nature walk at zziwa wildlife Ranch : One of the worlds most sought after birds is the shoebill stork and this wildlife ranch is one of the only places that you are almost always guaranteed to see them. The best sighting has been 11birds in one trip! Within the swamp area where these prehistoric-looking birds are nesting.
An early morning (06:00 am) shoebill trek and canoe ride through the swamp not only gives you the opportunity to find the shoebill, but also to see the beautiful Ugandan sunrise over Lugogo Swamp.
Water birds are plentiful in this swamp and those who love nature or are interested in birding need not miss out on visiting this swamp. Birding here is recommended to be done between 06:00 and 10:00 am approximately 4 hours. Remember to wear closed shoes, long pants, insect repellent and have mineral water with you to energise.
Guided Birding and Nature Walk
The sanctuary contains over 300 bird species! And there are four bird trails within the sanctuary which cover woodlands, swamp and savannah. The bird guides are experts of the area and will excellently guide you to satisfaction. While on this bush bush, also walk, synchronise with natures sounds and smells, also see some of the variety of wild life on the sanctuary. The guide shares his knowledge of the game, vegetation and botany here while you unwind in the quiet of nature. Spend a night in the sanctuary and enjoy the array of feathered friends found here and the best times for bird walking here is 07:00 to 09:00 am and 16:00 to 18:00 pm approximately 2 hours whereas nature walks anytime between 07:30am and 16:30pm.

This adventure introduces night sounds and sensations of the sanctuary, it is an experience for the adventurous, encounter nocturnal animals and tell the story in day light. Recommended time is between 20:00 and 23:00 hours approximately 2½ hours. A flashlight is a must to walk through the dark.

The following policies apply to all confirmed bookings made by the client;
- Cancellations received within 30 -10 days’ notice to date of departure will incur 25 % charge
- Cancellations received within 9-2 days’ notice to date of departure will incur 50% charge
- Cancellations received within less than 48 hours to date of departure incur the full charge
- No shows without communication over the whole safari period will be charged 100%
- Cancellations of bookings in peak seasons (Christmas, new year and Easter) received 60 days to date of departure will incur a cancellation charge of 100%
- Cancellations must be advised in writing via email to the reservations or tours manager
