Promote Health in Rushaga Sector
As Petnah Community Empowerment Initiative promoting health of the local communities around the protected areas of Uganda including Rushaga Community around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Promoting easy access to health and socio – economic resources through research, capacity – building, advocacy and collaboration is our mission.
In Rushaga Community and other communities around protected areas in Uganda, the nearest provincial hospitals are hard to access by the locals. The locals have to walk long distances to access medication, because of this many people have lost their lives to illnesses. Also, these communities lack decent health infrastructures which has become a threat to the local’s lives.
Accessing basic health care services is complicated most of the times and to find a solutions to these issues, Petnah Community Empowerment Initiative started the Health Promotion Program.
Health Promotion Program
At Petnah Community Empowerment Initiative, we are aware of the existing situated of orphans and vulnerable children in Rushaga Community. We focus much on supporting orphans and vulnerable children through this program, our health promotion program aims at strengthening community health systems to promote health and access to quality health services.
All actions through Our Health Promotion Programs are implemented through the Ministry of Health Systems and species through the District Health Office, Hospitals, Health Centers and Village Health teams.
Maternal Child Health (MCH)
Petnah Community Empowerment Initiative’s main goal is to contribute to a reduction on the maternal and child mortality rates in Rushaga Community and other areas around Uganda’s protected areas.
Sexual and Reproductive Health
Through the health program, Petnah Community Empowerment Initiative in conjunction with the local health workers and region health teams, we provide risk detection and management services. In this program we do the following
- support adolescent girls and young women to access accurate sexual and reproductive health information
- provide a range of safe and affordable contraceptive methods
- referral to health facilities to access obstetric and antenatal care
- prevention and management of sexually transmitted infections including HIV.
- Advocate for an improved policy environment for promotion of adolescent health service at all levels
- Increase access to youth – friendly sexual reproductive health information and services in order to promote healthy sexual behaviors and decision – making among adolescents.
Family Planning
This program targets adolescent girls and young women in Rushaga Community around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, through family planning program we sensitize the locals about the need for spacing the children, its health and financial benefits through community meetings and drives.
