The Virunga volcanoes home to half of the world’s Mountain Gorillas found in the south west in Uganda bordering Rwanda and Congo. The tiny (38km sq) Mgahhinga National Park protects the Ugandan Portion on the Northern slopes of Mts Muhavura, Mgahinga and Sabinyo . The summit of Mount Muhavura (4127m) has a small crater lake .
Mgahinga comprises 3 extinct volcanoes and 3 extensive swamps. The park has been set aside to prvide a secure habitant for the gorillas. However ,beside the gorillas other wildlife may also be viewed including Golden monkey, leopard , giant forest hog, bushbuck, buffalo, Elephant and birdlife includes 12 endemic spieces.
