Queen Elizabeth national park

Queen Elizabeth national park is the oldest national park in Uganda and located in the western part of the country. Queen Elizabeth national park sits on 1,978 sqkms. Queen Elizabeth national park has the Lake george, lake Edward, the kazinga channel and lake Nkugute in it,s vicinity. With a numerous twin lakes, the kyambura gorge where it is a home to the chimpanzees and tracking is done there, th Kalinzu forest is also another places to track the chimpanzees in the Queen elizabeth national park.

When at queen Elizabeth national park, this is what you should expect;  morning and evening game drive where you will be able to mingle with the wildlife like the African Elephant, African cape buffallo, the kobs, lions, antelops, Water bucks,leopards, hyenas, jackals, the giant forest hog, the Nile crocodile, alot of bird species, hippopotamus and the Olive baboons.

Murchison falls national park

Murchison Falls national park is one of Uganda’s first national parks. It came into existence in the year 1952. Murchison falls national park sits on 3,840sqkms in the northern side of the alerting riftvalley. The national park is a home to a variety of bird species, wildlife like lions, elephants, leopards, giraffes, jackals, waterbucks, kobs, antelopes, hippos, warthogs and many more water and land animals. The thunderous water falls form a rainbow curve at the starting point of the gorge giving it a beauty of it’s own.

Murchisom falls national park is cut through by the Victoria Nile, which declines 45m over the remnant rift valley wall, creating the thunderous Murchison Falls which is  the main event in an 80km stretch of rapids. The mighty cascade drains the last of the river’s energy, transforming it into a broad, placid stream that flows quietly across the rift valley floor into Lake Albert. This stretch of river provides one of Uganda’s most remarkable wildlife spectacles. Regular visitors to the riverbanks include elephants, giraffes and buffaloes; while hippos, Nile crocodiles and aquatic birds are permanent residents.

Kidepo valley national park

Located far north of Uganda, kidepo valley national park is also known as Africa’s lonely quiet wilderness by many tourists.known for the bumpy roads accompanied with the long journey from Kampala the capital city of Uganda,kidepo valley national park is a true definition of Africa safari.

Primate safaris in Uganda

Uganda’s top safari is the gorilla safari, it can be accompanied by the Chimpanzee trekking.Gorilla trekking in Uganda is more affordable compared to the ones in Rwanda where the Gorilla permits in Uganda go for 700USD (Eight hundred USD) while in Rwanda they go for 1500USD (one thousand fivbe hundred USD).

In Uganda, gorillas can be trekked in the Impenetrable Bwindi forest. Bwindi impenetrable national park is located in the far Western park of Uganda. It sits along the Rwanda and Congo boarder to Uganda. Gorillas are known to be 98% human DNA. This makes it a top safari to your bucket list. In Uganda still, Gorillas can be trekked in the Mghahinga Ntaional park.

Chimpanzees are other primates that are trekked while on a Uganda safari, they can be trekked from the Kibale national park, Kyambura gorge in Queen Elizabeth national park and Kalinzo forest.

Lake Bunyonyi

Mountain Hiking in Uganda

Mabira forest in one of the bogest forests in East Africa, it gives the best atmosphere for birders and adventurers. The forest ziplining gives you an adrenaline check of going through the canopy of the forest on a zipline of 6 trees, the first tree is 45m high and the last one is 60m high. The zipline takes you over the griffin falls and you ascend down the zipline.

Ziwa Rhino sanctuary is the home to the black rhinoes in Uganda, it can be added to the safari to the murchison falls national park since it is along the route to murchison falls national park.

Masai mara game reserve

Masai mara game reserve is Kenya’s leading tourist gather point because of it’s Wildebeest migration. This happens every year. Masai mara was named “mara” to honour Maasai people. Amboseli National park

Located in Kajiado County with its ecosystem spreading across the Kenya-Tanzania boarder, Amboseli national park is occupied mostly by the masai. It even used to be called the Maasai Amboseli Game reserve back then. It being in the swampy area, there are over 400 species of birds including water birds like the kingfishers, pelicans, crakes, hamerkop and 47 raptors. Amboseli national park protects two of the five main swamps; it also includes a dried –up Pleistocene lake and semiarid vegetation.

Amboseli national park is famous for harboring the free-ranging elephants. Also it gives tourists a very good view of the mountain Kilimanjaro which is the highest free standing mountain in the world. Amboseli was also a home to the world’s most researched about elephant in the world, Echo. It was followed for many decades by American conservationist Dr Cynthia Moss and very many books and documentaries. The park is blessed with  African wildlife like; African bush elephant, cape buffalo, Impala, lion, cheetah, spotted hyena, masai giraffe, Grant’s zebra and blue wildebeests. The park also has small and large birds.

Lake Nakuru national Park

The rift valley soda lake in Africa is located south of Nakuru. It lies in the rift valley of Kenya and has an elevation of 5,755 ft above sea-level. The lake is protected by Lake Nakuru national park. The lake is a home of various animals and birds, they include; baboons, warthogs, Eastern black rhinos and southern white rhinos,flamingos and many more. The park is close to Nakuru town, the word Nakuru means “Dusty place or Dust” in maasai language. The Lake is also under the gazetted Ramsar gathering of wet-lands.

The National park came to existence in the year 1961 near Lake Nakuru and Nakuru town and famously known for the many flamingos that nest along the lake shores, the number of flamingos depends on the food availability with their advantage point from the baboon cliff. The park has gazeted areas for giraffes and black and white rhinos. The park has 2 black rhinos and 70 southern white rhinos currently. There are a variety of waterbucks, lions, leopards can be sighted on a lucky day. There are a possibility of seeing pythons crossing the road. Birds like flamingos, African fish agle, Goliath Heron, Pied kingfisher, Hamerkop can be watched.

Tsavo National park

Tsavo is made up of two separate parks, the Tsavo East national park and the Tsavo west national park. It is located in the coast province of Kenya in-between Nairobi city and Mombasa. Tsavo is approximately 22,000km2, being the largest national park in Kenya and one of the largest in the world. The park was split into two because of the construction of the railway going through to Mombasa.

Tsavo East

It’s slightly larger, flat with dry plains across which the Galana River flows. Also have the Yalta Plateaus and Lugard falls. It gives a good sight of dust-red elephant wallowing. It is the largest protected area in Kenya. Also is a home of mammals like vast herds of dust-red elephants, rhinos, buffalo, lions, leopards, and pods of hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks, and the prolific bird life which features over 500 species.

It can also be accessed through Mayani gate, Voi gate, Buchuna gate and Sala gate.

It is localized for bird watching and antelopes.

Tsavo West

It is located in the coast province of Kenya. It is separated from the eastern by the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway and the railway line. It is a 5hrs 37mins (280kms) drive to Mombasa town. More mountainous and wetter compared to the East Tsavo because of the Sipe and Mzima springs. It holds a magnificent bird life and a bigger number of large mammals like Black Rhino, Cape buffalo, Elephants, leopards, Hippos and the Masai Lion. It is also famously known for rock climbing and guided walks along the Tsavo River.

It can be accessed through the Mtito gate, man eater’s gate, Ghyulu gate.

It is also over shadowed by the Kilimanjaro Mountains in the southwest. It is also a favorite for Big 5 viewing.

Nairobi national park

Nairobi national park is the only protected area in the world with a huge variety of wildlife near the city centre of a country. It is targeted for the visitors to Nairobi. The park is a well known rhino sanctuary where they are taken care of until they are relocated to their previous range or upcoming sanctuaries. It is one of the very few parks where a visitor is assured of seeing a black rhino. The park sits onan area of 117km2 plus a diverse range of habitats with a wealth of Flora and Fauna.

The park is blessed with over 400 bird species where by some are seasonal. Other wildlife for visitors to see include; lions, leopards, hyenas, cheetahs, eland, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and black rhinos.

There are several national parks in Kenya that have a variety of wildlife. They include;

• Arabuko sokoke national park. It is a forest in the coastal region of Kenya with the smallest part of the forest having the national park. The reserve hosts plants and animal species like the clarke’s weaver bird and the sokoke pipit.
• Chyulu Hills National Park. It is a picturesque park with green hills and amazing landscape views. It is a stunning place to visit because of the views and the animals, such as the reed bucks and giraffes. It also a hiking spot plus camping.

The beach life in Kenya coastal towns

Kenya is also blessed with the coastal towns that have put up a number of beaches along the shores of the ocean.The coastal towns have indeed attarcted the foerigners to cool of their tight schedules off duty. • Diani beach which is the most popular in the coastal region. It is located 30kms south of Mombasa

The Hell’s gate national park Hell’s Gate National park is one of the two National parks in Kenya where you will find Hiking, bicycling, motorcycling and even camping encouraged within the park. There is mountain climbing and boating of Lake Naivasha. At Hell’s Gate National Park,you can find several lodges around Naivasha Lake, popular among tourists for watersports, bird and game viewing in private ranches and walks along Crescent Island, Crater Lake, and Mt. Longonot.

Saiwa swamp national park There are many swamp animals in Saiwa swamp national park, they include; Grey duiker, bushbucks, the black and white colobus monkey,African clawless otter and De Brazza’s monkey. The park is combined with a long footbridge across the swamp, with also nature trails through the heart of the park, the park can also be explored on foot. The sitatunga can be viewed well at 8am on platform four, platform four is among the viewing points. Birding can be done actively from 8am to 10am.

Tanzania tourism experiences

Serengeti national park Serengetin national park sits on 14,763 sqkms and is located in the Mara and Simiyu areas. The national park is well kown for the the largest annual migration. The migration is one of the 7 wonders of Africa. Serengeti national park neighbours the Masai mara and Ngorongoro conservation area.

Serengeti national park harbors over 3000 lions, and many species of prey. The protected area is considered a lion conservation Unit together with Masai mara. Serengeti national park is filled with alot of wildlife like the African elephant, Africa Buffalo, Black rhinoceros, the cheetah, gazelle, spotted hyena, jackal, Africa golden wolf, honey badger, striped hyena,caracal, serval, mangoose, african wild cat, nile crocodile, leopards, and many bird species.

Tarangire national park Is located in the Manyara region, the name of the park comes from the Tarangire river that cuts through the park,the river is the primary source of the fresh water for the wild animals. Wildebeests and zebras migrate to the park for water during the dry seasons.

Tarangire national park gives a bigger home to the elephants and the baobab trees. The park is better visited during the dry season that cutts through june to december. There you will be in position to  large herds of thousands of zebras, wildebeests and the cape buffalos. There are also the waterbucks, dik dik, giraffes,elands, impalas, cervet monleys, banded mangoose and even olive babiins. You will be able to share the same area with the lions, leopards, cheetahs,caracal,african wild dogs and the honey badger. The park has over 550 bird species and a perfect spot for the birders. The oldest elephant to give birth to twins is found in Tarangire national park.

Lake Manyara national park Is located in Arusha and Manyara regions of Tanzania. It also sits in the Great Rift valley and Lake Manyara. The national park is diverse with over 670 species of plqnt nad fern species. Lake manyara national park is also a home to a number of bird species including the flamingos that flock in usually, the great white pelican,pink-backed pelican, yellow billed stork, the marabou stork and the grey heron.

The lake manyara national park is also a home to wildebeests,zebras,thomson’s gazelles, grant’s gazelle, zebras, bushbucks, waterbucks, hippos, warthogs, baboons, lions, leopards, African wild cats, spotted hyenas, bat-eared fox, serval, honey badger. Lake manyara also settles a number of dish species and butterflies aswell.

The Ngorongoro conservation area The worl heritage site is loacted 180km away from Arusha in the crater highlands of Tanzania, it is a large volcanic caldera named Ngorongoro crater. Masaai pastoralists were displaced from the conservation area by the Ngorongoro Wildlife Conservation Act in 2009. The Ngorongoro crater protects the Olduvai gorge or rather the Oldupai which sits in the plain area.

The crater region is a home to the African buffalo, Black rhinos, Lions, wildebeests, Eland, Blue monkey and some birds as well, the cheetahs, African leopards, Hyenas, East African Wild dog. This gives the beauty of the crater that can be viewed from the viewing points in the conservation area.

Kilimanjaro National park Located 300kms south of the equatir, Kilimanjaro national park is near Moshi town. The park is composed of the whole montane forest and the entire mountain kilimanjaro it’self.Mountain Kilimanjaro covers over 1,688sqkms. It is Tanzania’s most income generating national park over the years. You can plan a hiking safari to the top of the Kilimanjaro mountain.

Arusha National park It covers Mount Meru in the Arusha region of the northe eastern Tanzania. The small national park is blessed with the meru carater funnels in the west, the Jekukumia river and the mount meru that give a beautifl landscape.

The national park is ricjh in wildlife that varies frombirds to the land and water animals.  The commonly seen animals in the park are the giraffes, cape buffalos,zebras,warthog, the balck and white colobus monkeys, blue momkey,flamingo,elephant,bushback,leopards and bird species.

Zanzibar tourism experience The Indian ocean island of Zanzibar is a top destination to many toursists because of the beach life. The island gives you a feel of nature at it’s best. Stone town is Zanzibar’s capital city which is the core of the tourism industry of Zanzibar. It is also a world heritage site.  The landscape of mikumi national park is like the one of serengeti national park with the savannah vegetation, acacia, boabab, tarmarinds and some rare palms.The park is blessed woyh giraffes, eland, zebras, impala,kudu,black atelopes, wildebeests, baboons and buffalos, there are also over 400 species of birds.

Rwanda safari experiences

Rwanda is a top toursim destination in East africa and is commonly known for the Gorilla safaris. Rwanda is a landlocked country found in East Africa. Its capital city is Kigali. It is bordered by Uganda, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Uganda and Burundi. It sits in the Great Rift Valley region where the African great lakes of East Africa. It is dominated by mountains in the west and savanna to the east with very many lakes running through the country. The country was also affected by the memorable Rwanda genocide of 1994 but didnt stop it’s tourism rampant growth and now a big destination point to many tourists.

Volcanoes national park

It sits Northwest of Rwanda; it is one of Rwanda’s most popular tourist destinations. Volcanoes national park was re-opened in 1999, since then, it has become one of the world’s famous mountain gorilla sanctuary. It has almost over 700 species left now; it gives the visitors a close sighting of the mountain gorillas than anywhere in the world. Volcanoes national park is also known for its spectacular scenery and diverse vegetation. It is also part of the Virunga conservation area which covers more than 125sqkms, including five extinct volcanoes: Muhabura, Sabyinyo, Gahinga, Karisimbi and Bisoke, they can be climbed during one or two days trek. Tourists climb through the abundant bamboo and rainforests, with the open swamp and grassland of volcanoes national park to see golden monkeys, buffalos, and bush duiker, spotted hyenas, over 178 bird species recorded. The peak of the volcanoes is spotted right through the dense forest canopy.

Akagera National park

It is a protected area that lies along the Tanzanian boarder. It is sited in Eastern Rwanda. Akagera covers 433sqmi,it was founded in 1934. Akagera is occupied with Savanna, montane and swamp habitats. Akagera national park was named after the Kagera River which floors along the eastern boundary. It is the largest protected wetland in East-Central Africa occupied with a complex system of lakes and papyrus swamps.

Akagera national park was once having the largest number of African wild dogs. Today you will view the buffalo, Zebras, lions, impala, black the black rhino, leopards, hippo, the masaai giraffe and the hyenas.

The best time to visit Akagera national park is June to September.

Nyungwe Forest National park

Nyungwe Forest national park is located in the southern part of Rwanda close to the Congo boarder. It is 1,015sqkms of land filled with over 85 mammals, 310 bird, 1050 plant, and 120 butterfly species and over 38 reptiles. The Nyungwe forest national park has enough activities to do, they include; the canopy walk through the montane rainforest, it takes 2 hours  to cover the 200metres long trail which is over 50 meters above the forest cover. Children below the age of 6 years are prohibitive from the hike.

Chimpanzee trekking is another activity to do at Nyungwe forest national Game Park. The park is a home to over 25% of Africa’s total primate species. The Chimpanzee population is second to Uganda’s Kibale National Park. There is always a guide to take you through the long treks along the trails, the treks are not always smooth. The chimpanzees are sighted swinging on the tree branches, mother chimps cuddling their babies.

The trekking experience starts always at 8am in the morning, through the rain forests, the group of at least 8 members walk through the slippery trails. The use of binoculars is advised because the chimp can sometimes be sighted afar away.

The Nyungwe Forest bird walk is another activity to do at the game park. It being among the top birding spots in Rwanda, it is a home to over 310 bird species. There are the rare birds to watch like the Great blue turaco, the red throated Alethe, the paradise flycatcher and the forest hornbill. Ther other birds like Ross’s turaco, Red-Breasted sparrow, woodland warbler, the Ruwenzori bartis. With a number of trails in the parks, the chances of viewing many birds are high.

Colobus monkeys are common in the forest too; they can be trekked at the Nyungwe forest national park. Nyungwe national park has 13 primate species where half of these are monkeys. Most of the monkeys are so common to the region and among these is the Ruwenzori colobus monkey. There also the grey-cheeked mangabeys, L’Hoest monkeys, Owl faced monkeys, blue monkeys and the mona monkeys.

Giswati Mukura National Park

Located in the western part of Rwanda, the national park is made up of Giswati  Mukura with two separate forests, the larger Giswati and small Mukura, this forming a total of 34sqkms. It is a home to a group of 20 chimpanzees, golden monkeys, Lhotse’s, Blue Monkeys. There are 232 bird species at Giswati and also 163 bird species at Mukura.
