Detailed Itinerary of 7 Days Wildlife and Gorillas of Rwanda

Day 1: Kigali

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative (your driver-guide) and transferred to the hotel in Kigali City. Spend the rest of the day at leisure recovering from jetlag, if you are interested in exploring you can go for a Kigali City visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site, the Kimironko Market among others.

Day 2: Akagera National Park

Wake up early for breakfast and depart to the East of the country heading to Akagera National Park. Check in at your lodge – Magashi Camp and relaxation before the afternoon game drive.

In the afternoon, explore the savannah plains of Akagera National Park and enjoy sightings of several animals including the Big 5 – lion, leopard, cape buffaloes, rhinos, giraffes and zebras among others.

Return to the lodge on time for dinner and overnight. And listen to the stories of the land during a traditional Kugisha supper around a roaring fire with old and new friends.

Day 3-4: Akagera National Park

In these two days you will enjoy thrilling game drives. Wildlife sightings in Akagera National Park are always unpredictable and that is what makes a game drive so exciting. Look out for tracks. Listening for alarm calls and be on the alert for nearby predators.

There is so much to see in Akagera National Park, and being the first to spot something brings a whole new level of satisfaction to your day.

Day 5: Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo

Wake up early for breakfast, check out of your lodge and embark on a journey to the mountainous region and gorilla territory. Today’s journey is long with a drive through Kigali City where you will have a lunch stop, you will have another stopover at the Twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo for scenic views and a boat cruise.

You will arrive at the lodge late afternoon and have time to freshen up before dinner.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking Experience

After breakfast, depart early to the park headquarters for briefing. Once you are briefed on the gorilla family your group is tracking (a group of more than 8 people), walk through the tropical rain forest in search of the mountain gorillas. You may find them doing their daily chores of feeding their young ones, climbing trees and others just relaxing. You will spend 1 hour with the gorillas, and then return to the headquarters.

Transfer back to the lodge in time for a late lunch and afternoon at leisure to relax. Today it is possible to do a cultural activity in the Iby’iwacu Village.

Day 7: Departure

Enjoy a leisure breakfast and checkout of the lodge. Then transfer to Kigali Airport with a short Kigali City Tour.
