Day 1: Birding in Nairobi National Park

To star your Kenya Birding Safari, you will be picked at the airport by our representative – your driver guide and a birder and head to Nairobi National Park for a birding experience.

With over 500 bird species recorded, Nairobi National Park hosts one of the longest bird lists of any city in the world. The park’s undisturbed habitats including grasslands host several bird species such as the restricted-range Jackson’s window bird which breeds here regularly after good rains. Other bird species you will see in Nairobi National Park include African Water Rail, Spotted Thick-knee, Speke’s Weaver, Secretarybird, Northern Pied Babbler, Pangani Longclaw, African Quail-finch, Zebra Waxbill, Kori Bustard, Saddle-billed Stork, Ruppell’s Robin-chat, White-tailed Lark, Rufous-naped Lark, Red-throated Tit, Yellow-throated Sandgrouse, Martial Eagle, African Crowned Eagle, Lappet-faced Vulture, Violet Wood-hoopoe, Nairobi Pipit, Croaking Cisticola and Desert Cisticola among others.

Day 2: Head to Lake Naivasha

After breakfast, drive to Lake Naivasha for a birding experience. You will spend the whole day at the shores with your birder searching for birds, the lake’s shores provide a wealth of lake shore bird sightings.

Lake Naivasha is a large freshwater lake sitting just outside the town of Naivasha at an elevation of 1,884m. Lake Naivasha is the highest lake within the Great Rift Valley. The vegetation available at the lake’s edge supports a fascinating birdlife of over 350 species including Mosque Swallow, Lyne’s Cisticola, Chestnut Sparrow, Abyssinian Wheatear, Nyanza Swift, Mottled Swift, White-fronted Bee-eater, Mocking Cliff Chat, Bearded Woodpecker, Plain-backed Pipit, Giant Kingfisher, Grey-backed Fiscal, Grey-crested Helmet-Shrike, Brimstone Canary, Cape Teal, Pied Avocet, Black Heron, Goliath Heron, among others which you will see.

Lake Nakuru National Park is a birder’s paradise, home to 1.5 million flamingoes and over 450 bird species thriving in the park’s varied habitats, from Acacia woodlands to Euphorbia forests, thus creating a sanctuary for array of birdlife making it a premier destination for birdwatchers. With more 500 bird species recorded, the reserve is a prime birding destination in Kenya. Masai Mara is rich with 57 species, often bateleurs often soar above the grassy plains. Vultures often soar above the grassy plains and migratory bird species are available in the park. Some of the birds you will see include Abdim’s Stork, Giant kingfisher, Grey-crested helmet-shrike, Grey penduline tit, Hildebrandt’s starling, Jackson’s widowbird, Lazy cisticola, Ostrich, Purple grenadier, Red-throated tit, Ross’s turaco, Rosy-throated longclaw, Rufous-bellied heron, Rufous-throated wryneck, Saddle-billed stork, Schalow’s turaco, Secretary bird, Silverbird, Southern ground hornbill, Swahili sparrow and Tabora cisticola among others.
