7 Days Great Wildebeest Migration Calving Safari : This Great Wildebeest Migration Calving safari of 7 days has been designed with specific focus on following the Great Serengeti wildebeest migration during their calving season which takes place from December to April.
On this safari, you are to visit and explore the Lake Ndutu Area and the Southern and Central areas of Serengeti national park where the majority of the wildebeests are usually found. You will also visit Ngorongoro Crater – a world famous site and an 8th wonder.
The Southern Serengeti and the Ndutu areas of Serengeti national park, Tanzania are the best locations to witness thousands of wildebeests spread across the plains grazing on the rich short grass plains and as they give birth to thousands of baby calves. The calving happens in the months of January, February and March. The presence of the newly born calves which are in a weak state attract predators such as cheetahs, lions, hyena and leopards, in this period the predator action is at its peak and offers an opportunity to a good chance to see adrenalin-packed kills.

Detailed itinerary of 7 Days Great Wildebeest Migration Calving Safari
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a staff member of Petnah Africa Tours & Travel, he will drive to the hotel in Arusha and along the way he will brief you about the safari. Have dinner and have a night stay as you prepare for tomorrow’s adventure.

Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, you will be picked and drive to Tarangire national park for a game drive experience on which you will explore the park and spot various animals calling park home. Some of the animals to look out for include lions, herds of elephants, leopards, wildebeests and many birds such as drabber rufous-tailed weaver and ashy starling
In the evening you will head to Karatu Town to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Tarangire national park is an excellent wildlife viewing destination in Tanzania ranked as the 6th largest national park in the country after Ruaha, Serengeti, Mikumi, Katavi and Mkomazi.

Day 3: Tarangire – Ndutu Area
After breakfast, you will drive to the Ndutu Area situated in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area which is part of the Southern Serengeti ecosystem, Lake Ndutu found in the Area is an alkaline lake like other rift lakes, however its water is still drinkable and is consumed by the wildlife in the Area. Majority of the wildebeests can normally be found on the short – grass plains from December to April, the area is usually populated with elephants, lions, leopards and many birds.

Day 4: Ndutu – Serengeti Central
After breakfast, you will enjoy a morning game drive in the Ndutu Area exploring a range of various habitats such as swamps, woodland, Soda Lake and the famous Serengeti short grass plains. During the game drive you will witness herds of wildebeests and zebras and many wildebeest calves which are born in about 3 weeks around February, because of the presence of the calves you will easy see a variety of predators chasing after them. In 3 weeks, the calves are strong enough to escape attacks from the predators.
You will continue with game drive heading to Serengeti Central for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park (Central)
You spend the day exploring the central area of Serengeti national park following the migration and enjoying sights of the scenic landscape and a variety of wildlife in the area including herds of elephants, buffaloes, impalas, Grant’s gazelles, elands, topis, Maasai giraffe, hippos, cheetahs, rhinos among others.

Day 6: Serengeti – Ngorongoro
After breakfast, you will depart for Ngorongoro Crater for game viewing, Ngorongoro Conservation Area is one of the best game viewing destination site living on the crater floor, the conservation area hosts the worlds’ largest intact caldera the Ngorongoro Crater.
You will have lunch at your lodge at the rim of the crater and then descend to the crater floor for a game viewing experience exploring the crater and enjoying sights of animals such as lions, leopards, herds of elephants, giraffes and when you visit the Lake Magadi you will see huge concentrations of pink flamingoes.
Head to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Karatu – Manyara – Arusha
After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Manyara national park hosting Lake Manyara – the loveliest Lake in Africa as claimed by Ernest Hemingway, Lake Manyara covers two-thirds of the park and together with the Great Rift Valley provides a stunning backdrop.
During the game drive in the plains of the park you will watch a number of animals such as the tree climbing lions, giraffes, impalas, hippos and many birds such as thousands of pink – hued flamingoes, pelicans, cormorant and storks around Lake Manyara.
In the afternoon after lunch, you will drive to Arusha for drop off either at your hotel or at the airport for your onward flight.
