This 6 Days Rwanda Safari takes you on an adventurous safari visit to 3 National Parks within Rwanda, the tour begins in Kigali, head to Akagera National Park, Nyungwe Forest National Park and Volcanoes National Park ending in Kigali City.

Detailed itinerary of 6 Days Rwanda Safari – Gorillas, Wildlife & Chimps Tracking

Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park

Following a delicious breakfast in Kigali city at your hotel, you will meet your guide and embark on a journey to Akagera National Park – the only savannah park in Rwanda. You will arrive at your lodge in time for lunch, where you will check-in, have lunch, rest and later have a game drive in the afternoon looking for elephants, gazelles, antelopes, buffaloes, giraffes, impalas, leopards, zebras, bush babies, topis and baboons among others. Head back to the lodge where you will dine and spend the night.

Day 2: Game drive and boat ride on Lake Ihema

You will have a hot cup of coffee or tea early in the morning, thereafter set out for game drive in the early morning to see the early risers such as lions, leopards, cheetahs as well as other animals which you could have missed out on the game drive the day before. Among the animals you will see in Akagera National Park include Masai Giraffes, Leopards, Antelopes, Zebras, Buffaloes, African Elephants and many more.

You will return to lodge to relax, have some refreshments and lunch. In the evening you will enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema to see crocodiles and hippos as well as various birds such as kingfishers, the rare Shoebill Stork as well as the Fish Eagle among others. Head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After breakfast, you will drive to the rainforests of Nyungwe Forest National Park through Kigali. Along the way to the park, you will visit a number of tourist attractions like the traditional Rwanda King’s Palace found in Nyanza as well as the Cultural Museum found in Butare. Afterwards drive through the hilly countryside past the tea fields scattered with tiny wooden houses up to Nyungwe Forest.

Check in for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking and transfer to Kibuye

Following breakfast, you will go for an early chimpanzee tracking experience in the Nyungwe Forest which are the closest relatives to humans. The Forest Ranger will guide you through the various forest trails, this tracking activity takes approximately 3 to 5 hours depending on the movement of the chimpanzees and where they spent their previous night.

Day 5: Gisenyi and Ruhengeri

After breakfast, you will depart from Kibuye Town and drive to Ruhengeri through Gisenyi. The drive will unveil to you the beautiful countryside especially the Kayoye as well as the Gisovu Tea growing regions. Arrive in Ruhengeri and then dine and slumber your lodge.

Day 6: Mountain Gorilla Trek in Volcanoes National Park

Wake up early for breakfast, head to the park headquarters arriving by 8:00 am for briefing as well as distribution into gorilla tracking groups. You will then head out into the forest and begin tracking mountain gorillas, the trek takes approximately 2-6 hours depending on the movement of mountain gorillas and where they spent their previous night.

When you locate the gorillas you are allowed to spend one hour in the presence of gorillas watching them groom each other, pick fruits and leaves which they eat. You can take videos and pictures while following the park regulations. After one hour, you will go back to the lodge for some refreshments and a delicious lunch.

Later return to Kigali arriving in the evening, you will be dropped off at the airport for your flight back or at the airport.
