DETAILED ITINERARYOF 5 DAYS GREAT MIGRATION SAFARI

Day 1: Arusha – Ngorongoro Crater

You will be picked from your hotel in Arusha and with picnic lunch you will drive to Ngorongoro crater for a tour, on arrival you will descend 2000ft down the crater for a tour. The Ngorongoro Crater often called “Africa’s Eden” and the 8th Natural Wonder is the main attraction in the area and as you explore it you will spot various wildlife species such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, wildebeests and many birds.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is a home to the Ngorongoro Crater which was formed about 2.5million years ago as a result of a volcanic Mountain sinking due to inactivity and was initially thought to be higher than Tanzania’s famous Kilimanjaro. The crater measuring 22.5 kilometers across with rim wall standing 600m high has evolved into a unique and integral part of Tanzania’s eco-system, the crater houses over 30,000 animals and a large variety of birds.

In the evening you will head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Ngorongoro – Serengeti National Park

You will be picked from your lodge after breakfast and then drive to Serengeti North with your packed lunch, when you arrive in the Serengeti plains you will have en-route which is part of viewing the great migration.

Serengeti national park is known for hosting a huge concertation of resident wildlife including the “big five” – lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes and rhinos. Serengeti national park hosts the largest population of lions in Africa and this is due to the abundance of prey species, over 3,000 lions live in the Serengeti ecosystem.

With en-route game drive, you will head to you lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3 – 4:  Serengeti National Park (North Mara)

After breakfast, you will depart with your packed lunch for a full game drive in the North Mara region of Serengeti national park following the migrating herds.

During these two days will explore the plains of the North Mara which comes to life and turns into a wildlife paradise from August to October, you will visit the Mara River where you can see the herds crossing the crocodile infested river. It is not uncommon to see the herds cross the Mara River North on one day and then back south a few days later.

River crossing at Kogatende start to occur every day in August as the mega herd settles into the area, from August to October game viewing is at its excellent with river crossings pretty much guaranteed every day. There is no distinct movement of the herds as they tend to cross back and forth over the river, following the rains and subsequent fresh grasses. It is also not uncommon to see different herds crossing in different directions on the same day.

Note: To witness the Mara river crossing sometimes depends on luck.

Day 5: Serengeti National Park – Departure

After breakfast, you will depart for en-route morning game drive as you exit the park and drive to Arusha, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight back home.
