Queen Elizabeth National Park is a special Uganda Safari Destination because of its beautiful landscape and collection of wildlife, the creation of the East African Rift Valley which led to secondary faulting which created gorges, crater lakes, swamps, salt lake, valleys and other remarkable features that makes the park a natural wonder for nature lovers.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to several wildlife including leopards, lions, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, hartebeests, oribis, hippos and several other creatures. Key attractions in the park are the rare tree climbing lions of Ishasha Sector, Queen Elizabeth National Park has more tree climbing lions than anywhere else.

Day 1: Pickup and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park – Evening game drive

Our guide will pick you up very early from your hotel in Kampala or at Entebbe International Airport upon arrival and begin the journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park, the park is located in the western part of the country and along the way you will enjoy the remarkable scenery and rolling hills.

You will have a stop at the Equator crossing in Kayabwe to allow you take photos, the equator line separates the earth into northern and southern hemispheres. You can spread your legs and be into two of the earth’s hemispheres at the same time, you will have another stop at the Igongo Cultural Center. As you approach the park, you will begin spotting the magnificent views of the Rwenzori Mountains from the horizon as well as crater lakes, wildlife and the East African rift valley.

Arrive in the park in the afternoon and head to your lodge for refreshment then go for an evening game drive in the Kasenyi plains to spot warthogs, buffaloes, elephants, lions, small primates and several species of antelopes among others.

Day 2:  Morning Game drive – Boat Cruise at the Kazinga Channel

Have early breakfast as you wait to be taken for the morning game drive, the morning game drive allows you to spot the early risers and nocturnal animals like leopards as they head back to their den.

Queen Elizabeth National Park has remarkable landscape compared to even the Murchison Falls National Park, you will marvel at the savannah plains, crater lakes, swamps, rivers and woodlands. Some of the animals you will see during the game drive include buffaloes, lions, elephants, leopard, giant forest hogs, waterbuck, bush bucks, the Uganda Kob and Topis among many others.

After the morning game drive, you will go back to the lodge for rest and lunch before proceeding for the boat cruise at the Kazinga Channel, the boat will give you a perfect platform for viewing most of the wildlife as they gather to drink and bathe in one place. You will see animals such as elephants, buffaloes and zebras, also lookout for birds like herons, crested crane among others.

Day 3 – Chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura Gorge – Transfer to Ishasha for Tree Climbing Lions

Wake up early and prepare to head to the starting point in Kyambura Gorge – an underground forest that was created by secondary faulting after the formation of the East African rift valley. A vast forest grew in this valley which became a favorite for many primates, birds and other wildlife.

Chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura Gorge is a remarkable destination offering visitors a chance to visit this unique gorge and discover its biodiversity, chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura Gorge can be strenuous considering that you would be hiking up and down a steep gorge. You need to be mentally prepared for the challenge so that you are not surprised.

After tracking the chimpanzees, you will have lunch and be transferred to the Ishasha sector – the southern region of the park in search for the famous tree climbing lions of Uganda. These rare lions love resting on top of fig trees during hot parts of the day but can be seen in the evenings too

Day 4 – Morning Game Drive in Ishasha – Transfer to Kampala

Wake up and head out for an early morning game drive in Ishasha Sector to see more wildlife including topis, elephants, buffaloes and tree climbing lions. Ishasha Sector offers you a different experience because it has a different setting and landscape from Kasenyi.

After the game drive, you will begin the journey to Kampala with lunch at the Igongo Cultural Center where you will learn about the culture of the Ankole People. Continue your journey to Kampala and by pass the equator cross, expect to reach Entebbe between 6 to 7 pm.
