Day 1: Pick up and birding in Nairobi National Park

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or after breakfast at your hotel in Nairobi, meet and greet our company representative and your birding guide. Head to Nairobi National Park for a birding experience, a popular birding spot in Kenya hosting over 400 bird species including migratory and endemic species.

As you explore different areas of this incredible park, look out for several birds including Abyssinian thrush, Blacksmith lapwing, Brown-backed woodpecker, Common moorhen, Corncrake, Fischer’s lovebird, Grey crowned crane, Hamerkop, Hartlaub’s bustard, Jackson’s widowbird, Kori bustard, Lappet-faced vulture, Lesser kestrel, Long-tailed fiscal, Marabou stork, Martial eagle, Northern pied babbler, Pallid harrier, Purple grenadier, Saddle-billed stork, Secretary bird, Sharpe’s longclaw, Shelley’s francolin, Sooty falcon, Tawny eagle, White-bellied bustard, White-browed coucal, White-headed vulture, White-tailed lark and Yellow-necked spurfowl among others.

Wake up early and drive to Lake Naivasha, a renowned birding destination in Kenya boasting over 400 bird species including migratory and resident species, the lake is also an Important Bird Area (IBA).

Along the journey you will stop at Limuru ponds to spot birds like Maccoa duck, herons, Southern pochard, egrets, Northern Shoveller, Red-Knobbed coot, and Moorhen among others.

When you arrive in Lake Naivasha, you will enjoy lunch at the lodge after check-in. In the afternoon you will go for a drive along the lake and on a boat drive looking for several water birds. Lake Naivasha supports massive congregations of waterfowl, with numbers reaching 30,600 individuals. Over 80 waterbird species are commonly observed, ranging from Palearctic waders to elegant duck. Notable birds you will see include African Fish Eagle, Great Crested Grebe, Maccoa Duck, Great Egret, Grey-crested Helmeted-shrike, Basra Reed Warbler, and Lesser Flamingo, Red-knobbed Coots, African Spoonbills, and Little Grebes among others.

Day 3: Birding at Lake Oloiden

Lake Oloiden is a hot spot for birding enthusiasts, originally part of Lake Naivasha, the two water bodies are now separated by a 200 meter stretch of elevated land. Oloiden is very calm and peaceful place, boasting a rich biodiversity of over 400 avian species including the iconic African fish eagle and enchanting pelicans.

Bird species to lookout for include Abyssinian thrush, Sharpe’s longclaw, Corncrake, Fischer’s lovebird, Shelley’s francolin, Grey-crowned crane, Hartlaub’s bustard, Jackson’s widowbird, Kori bustard, Lappet-faced vulture, mustached warbler, Lesser kestrel and Martial eagle among others.
