Day 1: Travel to Mbarara and tour Lake Mburo (4hours)

Start the 4 –hour journey from Kampala with a stop over at Maya for highway roast, this completes a typical Ugandan road trip up country, enjoy photography here with the happy crowding vendors. Proceed to Lake Mburo and begin with a game drive in which you will see animals like Zebras, Uganda Kobs, warthogs, antelopes etcetera, drive to the Lake for the 1 hour long guided boat ride, while here, one can purchase souvenirs from the craft market next to the lake. Visit the fishing village inside the park and learn the simple way of life of the inhabitants.

After the days tour, drive to Mbarara town for late lunch and hotel stay. Tour Mbarara by night to experience the night life of this vibrant business center.

Day 2: Tour Ankole and hike Biharwe Hill

Wake up early for breakfast and start the day with the hike to the eclipse monument on Biharwe hill, catch beautiful views of the hilly landscape and enjoy photography with the blue skies in the background.

Climb down to Igongo cultural center for lunch after which you tour the museum here to learn the customs and traditions of this ethnic group. Visit the former palace of the King of Ankole, the royal tombs and learn how to brew beer traditionally at a typical Ankole homestead.

The Biharwe solar eclipse which is said to have happened in 1520 AD is commemorated by a monument located in western Uganda 12Kms from Mbarara town along the Kampala- high way on Biharwe hill.  The three pillars of this monument represent the three kings who were co–peers at the time, Ntare I Nyabugarobwera of Nkore, Nakibinge of Buganda and Olimi I Rwitamahanga of Bunyoro.

The solar eclipse happened when Olimi had reached Biharwe hill forcing the King and his warriors to flee in confusion leaving the cattle behind hence the location of the monument. Biharwe hill provides a stunning view of Igongo cultural center, Lake Mburo national park and the surrounding areas.

Igongo cultural center

Igongo cultural center is a recreational center comprising of a museum which is set on the grounds of the former palace of Ankole King. This museum has a cultural village replica and a heap of info, through artifacts and a restaurant that serves traditional Ankole dishes

The museum is also known as Eriijukiro with a collection of artifacts, craft work, photos, information panels, norms, customs, traditions and history of the people of south western Uganda and her neighboring Kingdoms

Return to hotel after the day long tour for rest. Dinner and overnight stay as the previous day.

Day 3: Travel back to Kampala Via Equator monument

After a lazy morning breakfast, check out of the hotel and start the journey back to Kampala with a stop over at Mpambire royal drum makers point for a brief tour and Masaka equator monument to perform the famous experiment, have lunch here and shop for souvenirs too. Group photography is recommended here for perfect memories of the trip. Continue to Kampala and arrive late afternoon or evening.
