Detailed itinerary of 3 Days Gorilla Safari

Day 1: Transfer From Kampala/Entebbe to Bwindi

Your safari driver-guide shall pick you up from our accommodation in Kampala or at Entebbe at 7.30 am, he will brief you about the safari then embark on a scenic drive of about 520 kilometers / 8-9 hours southwest to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

You will pass via the Masaka – Mbarara Road, along the way you will make a stopover at the Uganda Equator line at Kayabwe to take photographs of the crossing, stand in both in Northern and Southern Hemispheres at once and also do the water experiment.

Then continue your drive and have another stop for lunch at Igongo Cultural Centre in Mbarara  – the largest urban center in western Uganda, the center has one of the best museums in all Uganda and after lunch you will continue on your way to Bwindi Forest. 

Arrive in the park in the evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay as you get ready for the next day’s adventure

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking & Batwa Cultural Experience.

Gorilla trekking Experience is the highlight of this 3 days Bwindi Gorilla Safari and most safaris to Uganda.

On your day two, you will begin your day with an early morning breakfast at around 6.00 am and with your packed lunch, you will transfer to the park offices at 7.00 am for registration and briefing from the expert local ranger guides. At 8.00, you will embark on a once-in-a lifetime experience of trekking mountain gorillas in the wild in groups of 8 people.

As you trek through the lush flora of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in search of one of the 20 habituated gorilla families in Bwindi, the trek can be relatively tiresome and take about 2 to 7 hours so you need to have a reasonable degree of fitness and strong pair of hiking shoes. However, the thrill of encountering these gentle giants in their natural habitat is well worth.

After find the gorillas, you will spend a maximum of 1 hour observing them feed, groom, play and interact with each other. Also you will get to hear them communicating with one another and marvel at the sheer size of the silverback – the dominant adult make gorilla.

Although the gorillas are the highlight of the trek, you will also see other wildlife that you may be fortunate enough to encounter on the trek such as chameleons, Guereza, L’Hoest’s, Blue and Red-tailed Monkey, several species of squirrels, unique birds, and a dazzling array colorful butterflies.

After this life-changing gorilla trekking experience, you will enjoy your packed lunch in the lush rainforest and return to the starting point to receive your gorilla trekking certificate. You will then continue to your lodge for relaxation as you reflect on your thrilling and memorable encounter with the gorillas.

In the evening, you will have an opportunity to visit the Batwa – hunter gatherers. These people once lived peaceful with the giant gorillas for over 1000 years until they were evicted to conserve the forest and protect the mountain gorillas. You will be entertained by local dances and drama, visit the local medicine man, witness their high-skilled hunting tactics among others.

Day 3: Drive Back To Kampala/Entebbe.

After an early breakfast on this final day of your 3 Days Bwindi Gorilla Safari, you will check out of your lodge and say good bye to the friendly staff at the lodge. Then embark on a journey back to Kampala or Entebbe, you will pass the terraced rolling hills and rural villages that reflect on a newfound awareness of the precious wildlife of Uganda and welcoming local people.

You will have lunch at Igongo Cultural Center and another stop at Mpambire drum makers point, here you can buy some of these drums before continuing to Kampala or Entebbe arriving in late afternoon. Your driver will drop you off to the hotel in Kampala or Entebbe or at Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi to catch your flight back home.
