Overview

Your honeymoon begins in Lower Zambezi National Park, where three nights at Time + Tide Chongwe Suites provide a riverside base for canoeing, walking and game viewing.

You then fly to South Luangwa National Park for three nights at Shawa Luangwa Camp.

Walking safaris form an important part of the experience here, complemented by game drives and the camp’s electric safari vehicles.

The final three nights are spent at Tongabezi Lodge in Livingstone, giving you time to visit Victoria Falls and choose from a range of river, cultural and nature-based activities.

Victoria Falls forms part of the transboundary Mosi-oa-Tunya / Victoria Falls UNESCO World Heritage property.

The falls span approximately 1,708 metres and plunge through a series of basalt gorges along the Zambezi River.

South Luangwa covers approximately 9,050 square kilometres and is particularly associated with walking safaris, which have become one of the defining ways to experience the park.

The park supports around 60 mammal species and more than 400 bird species.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1-3: Lower Zambezi National Park

Arrive at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka, where you will be met by a Petnah Africa Tours representative before connecting to Jeki Airstrip.

On arrival, meet your driver-guide and begin the journey towards Lower Zambezi National Park, with wildlife viewing along the way.

The park stretches along the Zambezi opposite Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools and combines riverine habitats, floodplains, woodland and open savannah.

The river is central to the safari experience, with canoeing and boat activities providing a different perspective from conventional game drives.

Zambia Tourism specifically highlights canoeing as one of the area’s key activities, with opportunities to see hippos, elephants, zebra, puku, impala, buffalo and other wildlife along the river.

Over your three days, mornings can include canoeing, guided walking or game drives. Between activities, there is time to relax at camp, enjoy the views from your deck or cool off in the pool.

The combination of water and land-based activities gives the honeymoon a slower rhythm than a conventional vehicle-only safari.

Overnight at Time + Tide Chongwe Suites

The suites are positioned at the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi Rivers, with views towards the Zambezi escarpment.

The supplied itinerary includes the Albida Suite, a self-contained tented suite with separate sleeping and living areas.

Day 4-6: South Luangwa National Park

After breakfast, transfer back to the airstrip with game viewing along the way before your light aircraft flight to Mfuwe Airport.

On arrival, meet your guide and continue to Shawa Luangwa Camp.

South Luangwa is particularly well suited to a honeymoon that includes time on foot.

Walking safaris are one of the park’s defining experiences, allowing you to concentrate on tracks, vegetation, animal behaviour and the smaller details of the landscape as well as larger wildlife.

Zambia Tourism identifies South Luangwa as the place where the walking safari became famous.

During your stay, explore the park through guided walking safaris and game drives. The itinerary also includes the use of an electric safari vehicle, offering a quieter way to approach wildlife where conditions and camp operations allow.

Wildlife commonly encountered in South Luangwa includes elephants, buffalo, lions and leopards, alongside species such as Thornicroft’s giraffe and Cookson’s wildebeest.

The park’s wildlife concentrations vary considerably with the seasons, with the dry months generally bringing animals closer to remaining water sources.

Depending on the confirmed activities and conditions, afternoons can include a boat experience or sundowner excursion.

Overnight at Shawa Luangwa Camp

Shawa Luangwa is a small eco-camp overlooking the Luangwa River, with four tents and accommodation designed with couples in mind.

The supplied itinerary includes private outdoor bathing facilities and access to a swimming pool overlooking the river.

Day 7-9: Livingstone and Victoria Falls

After breakfast, transfer to Mfuwe Airport for your light aircraft flight to Livingstone.

On arrival, meet your Petnah Africa Tours driver and transfer to Tongabezi Lodge, your base for the final three nights.

Spend these days exploring Livingstone and the Victoria Falls area at a pace that suits you.

A visit to Victoria Falls is the natural centrepiece.

The falls are part of the Mosi-oa-Tunya / Victoria Falls UNESCO World Heritage property, which extends across Zambia and Zimbabwe.

UNESCO describes the waterfall as the world’s largest curtain of falling water, spanning approximately 1,708 metres.

Other activities available according to the supplied itinerary include canoeing, sunrise and sunset boating, guided walks, fishing, a museum visit, and visits to Mukuni Village, Mukuni Park and Maramba Market.

For couples wanting time away from structured activities, the lodge also provides an opportunity to slow down and enjoy the Zambezi setting.

Overnight at Tongabezi Lodge

Tongabezi Lodge sits along the Zambezi River close to Livingstone and provides a base for exploring Victoria Falls and the surrounding area.

The supplied itinerary highlights romantic dining, in-room massages and private river experiences as options during your stay.

The lodge’s proximity to Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park also provides an opportunity to include a wildlife experience in the Livingstone portion of the trip, subject to the activity selected and availability.

Day 10: Departure
